Professional Development Units, or PDUs, help certified professionals track continuing education activities. If you attend a course, seminar, webinar, workshop, or conference, you may need to convert CEUs or contact hours into PDUs.
The PDU calculator helps you make that conversion quickly. Enter either the CEU value or the contact hours. Then select whether the activity included an assessment, such as a scored test, project, or paper.
The calculator will show your total PDU credit instantly.
What is a PDU?
A PDU is a Professional Development Unit. It measures learning or professional growth activities. Many certification bodies use PDUs to track renewal requirements.
PDU Conversion Rules
Use these rules:
- 1 contact hour = 1 PDU
- 1 clock hour = 1 PDU
- 0.1 CEU = 1 PDU
- 1 contact hour with an assessment = 1.25 PDUs
Note that meals and breaks should not count as contact hours.
PDU Calculator
Use this PDU Calculator to calculate PDUs:

How to Use the PDU Calculator
Enter the CEU value if your course provider gave CEUs. For example, 0.5 CEU equals 5 PDUs.
Enter contact hours if your provider gave hours instead. For example, 6 contact hours equals 6 PDUs.
Select “Yes” if the course included an assessment. This may increase the value to 1.25 PDUs per contact hour.
Example PDU Calculation
Suppose you completed a 4-hour webinar.
If the webinar had no assessment:
4 contact hours = 4 PDUs
If the webinar had a scored test:
4 contact hours × 1.25 = 5 PDUs
This helps you record the correct value in your renewal log.
Why Use a PDU Calculator?
A PDU calculator saves time and reduces errors. You don’t need to guess whether CEUs and contact hours mean the same thing.
It also helps you plan your renewal cycle. When you know how many PDUs each activity gives you, you can see how many more units you need.
Summary
A PDU calculator helps you convert CEUs and contact hours into professional development units. It is useful for tracking learning activities, planning certification renewal, and avoiding calculation mistakes. You can use it after webinars, workshops, seminars, and online courses. Always check the activity details before entering values. Also, confirm your final PDU count with your certification body or state board, as renewal rules can differ.
