Step 1: Earn 60 PDUs

  • PDUs (Professional Development Units) are required to fulfill the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR). You must earn 60 PDUs within three years.
  • Report your PDUs to the PMI CCR system as soon as you earn them to avoid issues later.
  • Keep records of your earned PDUs for at least 18 months in case of a PMI audit.

  • You must agree to PMI’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct to renew your credential. This agreement ensures you work with honesty, responsibility, fairness, and respect.

PMI divides PDUs into two categories:

    • Working as a Professional: Claim 8 PDUs for working as a project manager.

  • Click on Certification and then Report PDUs.

2. What Happens if I Don’t Renew My PMP Certification?

If you have earned more than 60 PDUs, the PDUs earned in the last 12 months (up to 20 PDUs) can be moved to the next CCR cycle.

5. Do I need 35 of 60 PDUs for PMP Renewal?

You need 35 contact hours to apply for the PMP exam. However, you will need 60 PDUs to renew your PMP credential after passing the PMP exam.
